Dinosaur Bones
Dinosaur Bones is an indie-pop quintet from Toronto who have released one EP and one proper album since 2010. Their frontman Ben Fox was attending university in Montréal when he started writing a lot of songs. He needed an outlet, and instead of finding some schoolmates or some Montréalers to help him form a band, he did the only thing he could think of. He dropped out of school and moved back to Toronto. Other than that, I know absolutely nothing about them. My friend who introduced me to their music (viva la Geek!) also knows nothing about them. There’s not much information about them on the interwebs, and they haven’t updated their own website in seven months.
Since I can’t bore you with any anecdotes, I’ll just get right to the song:
“Ice Hotels” by Dinosaur Bones
Some of the songs on their album remind me of Jawbox. Some remind me of The Dismemberment Plan. So, yeah. I guess you might force me to say that they have a late 1990s DC post-punk sound. This song is a little different. It reminds me of something English. From when Brit-pop made a brief second run in my record collection in the late 90s/early aughts.
Whatever it sounds “like”, I enjoy it. And I’m gonna leave it at that.
