My Bloody Valentine new record release imminent?

My Bloody Valentine (circa 1991)

Tonight in London, My Bloody Valentine is playing a “warm-up show” in advance of their Japanese tour and their UK tour. I’m hoping that a US tour will follow the UK tour. It’s 6:00 pm Eastern time right now, and the concert is ongoing.

Numerous facebook status updates and tweets from audience members have been rolling in. The social media indicates that the band has debuted a new song. More exciting than that, the reports indicate that the new album is imminent. Kevin Shields told the audience that the new album “might be out in two or three days”.

Of course this is exciting news. However, we need to take this news with a grain or two of salt. Kevin Sheilds told us in September that the new album would be out by the end of 2012. He told us in 1997 that the new album was finished. We’ve heard it before. A million times at least.

Even though the smart bet would be to temper optimism about the impending release with caution, I’m throwing the caution away.

Here’s video of My Bloody Valentine playing a new song, which might or might not be called “Rough Song”.

The quality of the sound/video is marginal, but you still get the idea.
