11.20.13 — “Goodbye Wisdom” by Fixing Bayonets

Fixing Bayonets

If you only listen to one song tonight, make it “Goodbye Wisdom” by Fixing Bayonets (2013, from the forthcoming Bloom Sunset Horizon EP).

Fixing Bayonets is a psychedelic shoegaze/indie pop band from Los Angeles. I don’t know if it’s a band or one dude with some guitars and a bunch of gear. I literally know nothing about this band.

I got something in the mail bag today about the song, and all they/he had to say was “Here’s the first song from upcoming EP”. The subject line already had me snagged: “sounds like JAMC and Ride”.

I’ve listened to this song a bunch of times today, and I definitely hear the Jesus and Mary Chain connection, but I’m just not getting Ride. Specifically, the songs I’ve heard sound very much like the guys in Fixing Bayonets listen to the amazing Darklands album a LOT.

Here’s tonight’s song:

It’s a bit fuzzy, with lots and lots of layers. It has a bit of an untidy sound to it, and I like that.

It’s a short song, and I’m not wild about the sudden fade-out, but apart from that, I like this song a lot.
