Camera Shy is a dream pop/twee band from the Oakland/San Francisco area. The band is made up of vocalist Alexandra Morte and multi-instrumentalist Nick Bassett. Both used to be in the Bay area shoegaze band Whirr. Bessett also used to be in the San Fran black metal band Deafheaven. This project isn’t at all like any of those.
This project is really reminiscent of something like something that Rose Melberg would be involved with. Sounds a bit like Brave Irene, and more like one of Melberg’s other bands — The Softies. I’m also reminded a bit of Azure Ray.
I got something in the mailbag about this song the other day, and my interest was piqued by the mention that the members used to be in Whirr. My interest was even more piqued by the mention that the band is sometimes compared to The Cardigans and The Sundays.
Camera Shy’s debut EP will be released on June 25 via Run For Cover Records. They already have a full-length album ready for release, but no date has been announced for that. Today’s song is drawn from the EP.
This is that song:
“Spin Me” by Camera Shy
I really love the doubling of the vocals, giving the impression of a set of lovely sisters harmonizing. Or at least two girls who people mistake for sisters.
