08.19.2015 — “Constant Summer” by Nudes

If you only listen to one song today, make it “Constant Summer” by Nudes (2015, from the forthcoming album Nudes).

Nudes is a post-punk trio from Cardiff and London. I don’t know anything about them other than that the guys used to be in other bands. They recorded their debut album last summer, and it’s set for release on September 25 via Barely Regal Records and Dog Knights Productions.

I got something in the mail bag promising that the album will be reminiscent of Hüsker Dü and Sonic Youth. Naturally, that drew me in. I’ve previewed most of the album, and I’m actually hearing something more like Dinosaur Jr and Archers of Loaf. Either way, it’s a throwback to American punk music and noise rock of the 1980s and 1990s.

Right from the drop, it’s really fuzzy and there are tons of effects. On this particular song, the singer is channeling J Mascis just a little bit. On other songs, he sounds more like what would happen if Matt Pond fronted Archers of Loaf.

The album will be out at the end of September. As of now, neither of the two labels has a pre-order working.
