10.31.2015 — “Restless” by Miners

If you only listen to one song today, make it “Restless” by Miners (2015, from the Pala EP).

Miners is a shoegaze/noise rock quartet from Wollongong, New South Wales. Until today, I had never heard of that city, which lies about 60 miles south of Sydney, and is the third largest city in NSW and tenth largest city in Australia. I had also never heard of the band until I stumbled upon another one of their songs while I was messing around on Soundcloud.

The band started out as a solo bedroom recording project for Blake Clee (guitar/vocals). He recently expanded the project into a quartet and their debut EP Pala was released on October 1 via the very small Sydney label Strange Pursuits. That label has three releases in its catalog, and two of them are by a Sydney noise rock band called Day Ravies. As far as I can tell, that band and the label are one thing.

It’s quite obvious that this band is into Sonic Youth and MBV and The Swirlies.
