11.10.2015 — “There Goes My Mind” by Dream Suicides

Daniel Romero (Dream Suicides)

If you only listen to one song today, make it “There Goes My Mind” by Dream Suicides (2015, from the standalone digital single).

Dream Suicides is a shoegaze/dream pop/”ghostgaze” bedroom recording project of Daniel Romero from Riverside, California. I don’t know anything about this guy other than the stuff that’s on his Bandcamp and YouTube pages. He likes Winona Ryder. A lot. He likes The Smiths. A lot.

Since the spring of 2014, Romero has been recording and releasing digital singles under the name “Dream Suicides”. They all have “album artwork”, and the art for most of them is a screencap of some Winona Ryder movie. In the summer of 2014, he released a digital album called Soft Feelings. That was recently released with a couple of “bonus tracks” on a limited run of cassettes. Today’s song is independent of that. And today’s song is different because the “album cover” for the digital single is a screencap of Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction.

I happened upon Dream Suicides the other day when a different song showed up in my Soundcloud feed. I sought out some more of his stuff, and I really like this one as well.

It’s dreamy and gauzy and all that stuff. It’s a little raw, even for a bedroom recording, and I think that if this was polished up a little bit, this could be a really spectacular song. For now, it’ll do just fine.

You can name your own price on a digital download of the song via bandcamp here.
