12.16.2015 — “Sun Sun Sun” by MOLLY

If you only listen to one song today, make it “Sun Sun Sun” by MOLLY (2015, from the “Sun Sun Sun” single).

MOLLY is a dreamgaze duo from Innsbruck, Austria. They are Lars Andersson (guitars/vocals) and Phillip Dornauer (drums/bass/keys). I found this song in my Soundcloud feed and loved it right away. Earlier this year, they released a single for this backed with a song called “Kids on LSD”. You can download those for free via Soundcloud here.

I really don’t know anything about this band. According to their Facebook page, their influences are wide-ranging, and include Pink Floyd, Sigur Rós, and Slowdive. With today’s song being as ambient and dreamy as it is, it’s not difficult to hear those influences.

This is that song:

I could listen to this on a loop all day long and be perfectly happy.

I love the delay and other effects on the guitar. It sounds like we’re drifting miles above the surface of the earth. Speaking of which, they made a video for the song that illustrates just that. If I’m piecing things together correctly, they worked with some dude who attached a GoPro to a weather balloon, and they used some of that dizzying footage in this video:
